the Director and Concertmaster and “heart and soul” of this orchestra for 35 years until his passing in 2006.

Josephine Pellegrini, known as Jo, assumed the role of Director and Conductor after Gino’s passing and has successfully preserved his legacy of bringing the vibrancy and passion of the mandolin orchestral repertoire to new audiences throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Aurora Mandolin Orchestra consists of up to thirty professional and amateur musicians (mandolin, mandola, mandocello, guitar, string bass, accordion, flute and percussion) from various parts of the Bay Area. The uniqueness of this group is its varied repertoire including traditional and semi-classical Italian, Spanish, Russian, specialty ethnic and contemporary orchestral compositions. They have given public performances to thousands of music lovers and are especially proud to have played Davies Hall at San Francisco Symphony’s festive opening night in 1984, the Academy of Sciences at Golden Gate Park, Santa Clara University, and the annual San Francisco Mandolin Festival.

In 2006, the Aurora Mandolin Ensemble (AME), a subset of the orchestra was formed allowing the group to perform for venues ranging from the concert hall and outdoor festivals, to restaurants, clubs and private parties.
